Fruit Ninja Kinect Was 2011's 4th Best Seller on XBLA

Sweet taste of success

Halfbrick Studios' Fruit Ninja Kinect was the fourth best-selling game on Xbox Live Arcade in 2011, according to Major Nelson. The sensor-exclusive game outsold hits like Bastion, From Dust and LIMBO to take the fourth spot. Major Nelson says the stats only count "full versions purchased", but there's no clarification if it also includes the copies given away with.. Continue Reading »

750,000 Kinect Sensors Sold in Thanksgiving Week

Wow

Selling 10 million sensors around the world in one year is an impressive achievement for Microsoft, but selling 750,000 in just one week in the United States is pretty impressive too. News: Just 114,000 Japanese Have Bought Kinect

Just 114,000 Japanese Have Bought Kinect

Dismal

Xbox 360 isn't very popular in Japan, and the average Japanese home is very small. Surprise surprise, then, that Kinect has only mustered a pitiful 114,000 sales in the Land of the Rising Sun. Even combined, the three best-selling Kinect titles — excluding Kinect Adventures — only amount to a meagre 60,300 sales, barely even one sale for every two Kinect sensors. The top three titles.. Ubisoft: Microsoft Needs to Support Kinect Year-Round

Not just a holiday fad

Anyone who's glanced at the Kinect sales figures knows the sensor was quick out of the box, selling 8 million units in its first few months on sale, but the last update put the sensor at 10 million sold in its first year. With 80% of its lifetime sales in the first Christmas, it's clear Kinect hasn't yet achieved a solid year-round sales performance, something that worries.. Continue Reading »

Rise of Nightmares Racked Up a Scary 200,000 Sales

The horror

SEGA's Rise of Nightmares was a big hope for the future of hardcore gaming on Kinect, but the company's internal sales figures have revealed it didn't quite do the business. The sensor's first and only 18/M-rated game has sold 200,000 copies around the world since launch. When you consider the sensor has shifted around 10m units in the past year, 200,000 doesn't seem like a lot, but we.. Continue Reading »

Microsoft Drawing More Families to Xbox 360 Thanks to Kinect

Console's audience is expanding

The Xbox has always been aimed at the heavy user: it was the first console to feature a hard drive and the first to make a decent fist of online play (sorry, Dreamcast.) Its most successful first-party franchises are geared towards the hardcore gamer, and after years of failed attempts to draw in the family gamer (sorry, Viva Piñata) the console is finally growing.. Cheap UK Kinects Down to Retailers, Not Microsoft

Price-cutting continues

Kinect launched in the UK with a recommended retail price of £129.99, but with Christmas long gone the sensor's price has started slowly slipping: in February we saw Tesco selling Kinect for £99.99, with Game not far behind at £104.99. Initial speculation suggested that Microsoft had reduced the price of Kinect to retailers, allowing them to pass on the discount to.. Continue Reading »

News: Kinect Outsells PlayStation Move 5 to 1 in February

Kinect Outsells PlayStation Move 5 to 1 in February

If you crunch the numbers right

The last time Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter weighed in on the Kinect, he speculated that Microsoft was driving up demand for their device by not including Kinect bundles as part of their "shortages." This time around, he is again focusing on bundles to give Microsoft the proverbial pat on the back, crediting the Kinect with outselling its.. Continue Reading »
