It's official: Microsoft has boosted Kinect's accuracy in the past six months.

Xbox senior product manager David Dennis confirmed the software powering the sensor has been updated recently, paving the way for the likes of Kinect Fun Labs and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

I think like we showed at E3, like Kudo showed with Kinect Fun Labs – a lot of that tech is the advancements we've made in the accuracy, the tracking... being able to show finger tracking in the sparkles demo he did.

The accuracy improvements don't stop there though, with Dennis pledging more enhancements to come:

You saw too with Ubisoft's gunsmith demo [for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier] he was using his hand to fire in the firing range mode. I think that's the kind of thing we're going to continue to iterate on. There are already people working on things for next year and the year after inside our secret bunkers, and we'll continue to bring amazing stuff that consumers love.

Those secret bunkers are no joke.

Shame that 90% of the games are lame as well. They desperately need to address that issues as well.

I think the kinect firmware updates will be installed through a regular "xbl-update" session. In other words I don't think you'll get a kinect specific download you have to get or something.

I just got Kinect and, even though my dashboard was up-to-date, I received an update when I turned it on. Perhaps this is what they mean. I really hope to see MS better next year on E3, with really decent hardcore games for kinect or hybrid kinect games.
